COMPLEMENT FIXING ANTIBODY AGAINST TYPHUS GROUP RICKETTSIAE IN SERA OF HEALTHY KOREAN

Abstract
From August 1958 through August 1959, a total of 1, 235 sera bled from healthy Korean were examined for the presence of complement fixing antibody against rickettsiae of typhus group and agglutinating antibody against Proteus OX19. The result is summarized as follows.
(1) 488 sera or 39.5 % of 1,235 specimens showed positive complement fization test with soluble antigen made from Rickettsia prowazekii as shown in, table 1.
(2) Through this study it has become clear that the younger segments of the population who were born after the last epidemic of typhus fever in 1951 are decreasing markedly¢¥ in antibody to the antigen than the older. More than 45 % of adult male showed positive complement fixation test.
(3) The result of Weil-Felix reactions to the OX19. antigen for 693 sera was compared with complement fixation test in table 3. In only one serum, agglitinin reached a level of 1 in 160, but many sera indicated high titers of complement fixation test.
